NBA Power Poll #1

This is the first installment of a weekly series from Adam ranking the top ten teams in the league based on their current performance.

1. Los Angeles Lakers (3-0):  Kobe Bryant is showing no ill effects from off-season knee surgery, averaging 24 points, 4 assists and 6 rebounds thus far.  Pau Gasol has been great, Steve Blake and Matt Barnes seem to fit like a glove, and Lamar Odom is playing outstanding basketball.  The Lakers are averaging 112 points a game so far.

2. Miami Heat (3-1):  After struggling against Boston in the opener, they seem to have worked out the kinks.  They are winning games by an average of 15 points.  My main question is, can Chris Bosh or LeBron James cope with scoring 15-20 points per game?

3. Boston Celtics (2-1):  They had one head scratching lost to Cleveland, but it was a back-to-back night, and that will be hard for an older team.  Boston will pace themselves throughout the season, but they showed how good they can be against Miami.

4. Portland Trailblazers (3-0):  Portland is 3-0 with three comfortable wins, two of which came on the road.  If Greg Oden comes back in the next month or two, this team could be really ramped up for the playoffs.  Lamarcus Aldridge looks really good, and Marcus Camby continues to rebound and block shots at an incredible rate.  Oh yeah, Brandon Roy is pretty good too, finally 100% healthy.

5. New Orleans Hornets (3-0):  I have no idea how long this can last, but at 3-0, they have earned this spot.  Chris Paul is the extremely early MVP averaging 20 points, 9 assists, and 6 rebounds. I worry that this team doesn't have a true second scorer.

6. Dallas Mavericks (2-1):  With just a one point loss to the Grizzlies and two blowout wins, this team is playing at a high level.

7. Memphis Grizzlies (2-1):  Where are you Zach Randolph?

8. Denver Nuggets (2-1):  They're playing good ball but already Carmelo Anthony is rumbling about a trade.

9. Orlando Magic (1-1):  Orlando blew out the Wizards but then got blown out by the Heat. I need to see more from Superman's supporting cast.

10. San Antonio Spurs (1-1):  Tony Parker is a Spur for the next four years.
